Jim Morrison was a rock icon. Someone so larger than life, that they are irreplaceable. So when the Lizard King died on July 3rd, 1971. The Doors were as dead as Jim was. I mean how can you replace someone of Morrsion’s magnitude? You just can’t, you wouldn’t dare. Well this is classic rock, of course you can. So in 2002 those hacks, Keyboardist Ray Manzarek and guitarist Robbie Krieger tried just that. They called themselves The Doors of The 21st Century.
I thought things in future were supposed to be better, not suckier. They asked John Densmore, The Doors drummer to join. They say he declined, he says they never asked him, more on that later. They then reached out to Stewart Copeland the drummer of the Police to join, he said yes, and then broke his arm while riding a bike. The Doors sued him, he sued the Doors. He’s lucky he broke his arm or I would have broken his legs for joining this suckfest. So they grabbed a couple of tools to fill out the band and asked Ian Astbury of The Cult to join and why he did I have no possible idea. You see Ian actually looks like Jim Morrison and kind of sounds like him, but The Cult were an awesome band and his own band, so why join this traveling circus? I hope they paid you well Ian.
So they toured for a year, then in 2003 John Densmore filed an injunction against them for using the Doors name. The motion was denied in court, so they kept on touring until 2005, when the Morrison estate joined Densmore in a new injunction, this time they won and it was permanent. So instead of bowing out gracefully they changed their name to D21C. I would have called myself R2-D2, because D21C is the stupidest fuckin name ever. Oh trust me, it gets worse. After awhile they changed their name to Riders On The Storm, after the Doors song. Everyone knows that classic rock cover bands name themselves after a song from the band they are covering. So to name yourself after a song, when you are actually from the original band is such a classic rock faux pas it should be illegal. By the way the Crystal Ship is one awesome Doors cover band, which probably kicks these losers asses, but I digress. Where was I? This is exhausting. Oh yeah so in 2007, Ian Astbury finally gets his head out of his ass and decides to go back to his own band The Cult. So is this the end of DC6T48 Of The Storm? Of course not.
There are still puppet shows and children’s birthday parties to play, so they find a new singer Brett Scallions formally of the band “Fuel” and go on. Legally they are allowed to use “Former Doors” or “Members Of The Doors” when performing. Last I checked they were playing Ecuador, oh you think I’m kidding, I’m not. That’s the truth and I’ll leave it at that. You’ve been warned, leave these Doors closed.
