Posted on: July 23rd, 2008 Fake Bands: Boston

The 70’s, when rock bands were so creative, they named themselves after cities and states. A lot of thought must have went into that. If there is an iconic corporate rock band of the 70’s, Boston is it. From the very awesome album covers featuring flying spaceships shaped as guitars to the huge sound, Boston had it all. Giant guitar solos, crazy keyboards, tremendous afros. This is 70’s rock. Their self titled debut album sold 17 million copies. 17 million!!!!!!!! A ridiculous feat, still not yet matched for a debut album. Every song is a rocker. Their next album Don’t Look Back, didn’t fair as well with sales of about 4 million. In today’s climate that’s a number that’s unheard of, but back then it was considered a disappointment. Tensions began to mount between the label and Tom Schultz, the creative mastermind of the Boston sound and lead guitarist.

Time went by, the 70’s became the 80’s, lawsuits were filed on both sides finally the third album was delivered appropriately titled Third Stage after 8 years in the making. It was a hit, selling 5 Million copies. But taking so long left Boston with only 2 members, Schultz and lead singer Brad Delp. So time moves on yet again, 2 shitty albums are released, no one really cares, but they do tour and play pretty large venues.

Fast forward to 2007 and lead singer Brad Delp takes his own life, which is a shame, because from all accounts I’ve read he seemed to be a real cool, down to earth guy, with some kick ass pipes. So Brad will be missed. So what comes next? Well this is fake band alert isn’t it? Now Tom Schultz being the only member of Boston left, you would think, let’s stop this madness. Stop it??? Why, let’s run this mockery into the ground. So he hires former Stryper lead singer and guitarist Michael Sweet. You remember Stryper the “Christian” heavy metal band, with songs like “To Hell With The Devil”. Exactly!!!!! Well this puker is now one of the lead singers of Boston. The other works for Home Depot. Nope, no joke there, Tommy DeCarlo sang some Boston songs on his MySpace page, Tom Schultz sees it and asks him to join. So now this slob is in the band. I heard the hot dog guy wants to jam on drums during the concert, can he join?? I mean you expect people to spend their hard earned money for this traveling karaoke circus. Not us, you’ve been warned, this is more Newark, than Boston.
