With Angus & the gang’s new LP, “Black Ice” hitting the shelves this week we figured we’d take it back to the Bon Scott era for this Classic Clip from The Midnight Special TV show.

Posted on: August 19th, 2008 Getting Laid = Getting Votes

Daughtry has contributed his cover version of Foreigner’s ode to getting laid “Feels Like The First Time” to CNN. CNN plans to use this new version of the song as part of it’s election coverage of first time voters. Considering how stupid most 18-20 year olds are, Rockheap would actually rather these kids get laid than vote. Mick Jones of Foreigner is quoted as saying “Daughtry’s version of the song is very cool and has more than captured the essence of the original.” Translation: “I don’t give a shit what it sounds like, I’m getting paid bitches”

Here’s the video they created for this pointless cover:

Posted on: August 18th, 2008 AC/DC and The Man???

It’s been more than 25 years since the corporations have sucked the life-force out of rock music, but never in my wildest dreams did i ever expect AC/DC and the world’s largest retailer to jump into bed together, but apparently hell has frozen over. If you want the new AC/DC album the only place to get it is, Wal-Mart. If the thought of stepping into a Wal-Mart repels you, it can be pre-ordered starting today on walmart.com, samsclub.com and acdc.com. The album, titled “Black Ice”, is available for $11.88. The Brendan O’Brien-produced LP, the band’s first in eight years, isn’t due in Wal-Mart and Sam’s Club stores until October 20th, and the first single “Rock ‘N’ Roll Train” hits August 28th. Posted on: August 15th, 2008 Classic Clips: Isaac Hayes, “Theme From Shaft”

With the passing of the soul legend earlier this week, it was only appropriate for today’s Classic Clip to come from Black Moses himself.  Check out this completely insane video of Isaac doing the Theme From Shaft from Spain in 1973.  Not sure what’s crazier, his outfit or the fact that Rev. Jesse Jackson introduces him.  Get funky y’all.

Posted on: August 14th, 2008 Jackson Browne: American Cry Baby

Jackson Browne has filed a lawsuit against John McCain after the Republican presidential candidate used a portion of Browne’s “Running On Empty” in a campaign commercial without permission. The Republican National Party is also listed in the suit. In the commercial, McCain mocks Barack Obama for suggesting that the country conserve gas through proper tire inflation. What bothers Browne almost as much as McCain’s lack of permission, the lawsuit alleges, is that using “Running On Empty” suggests that Browne supports McCain’s presidential campaign and the Republican platform. Jackson also sued a bully who kicked sand in his face at the beach. Lighten up dude, this is the most action your career has gotten since you beat up Daryl Hannah.

The contest is open to all ages but limited to the following Foreigner anthems: “Cold As Ice”, “Hot Blooded”, “Juke Box Hero”, “Feels Like The First Time” and “Too Late”. The winner will be selected by a combo of judges and site users, and will receive one of Mick Jones’ guitars. The organization is also sponsoring Foreigner’s current tour. Which sound about right, considering the tour itinerary is made up of theme parks, casinos, state fairs and vineyards.

Posted on: August 11th, 2008 Allmans Sue Universal

The Allman Brothers Band are suing UMG Recordings for $13 million.  They are claiming that they haven’t been paid the correct royalty rate for the digital exploitation of the Capricorn Masters.  If you’re not familiar with Capricorn Records, then you need go get a lesson in the history of southern rock.  Also on the legal front, Gregg Allman’s liver is suing him for abuse leading to the contraction of Hepatitis C.

Posted on: August 8th, 2008 Great Gig In The Sea

No, that’s not a witty post title.  That is really the name of a recently announced Pink Floyd themed cruise to the Bahamas, brought to you by Kiqstart Music and featuring “Think Floyd USA: The American Pink Floyd Show” (gotta work on that name).  The press release promises Pink Floyd fans a combo of sun and sea with an amazing concert experience.  I cannot wait to see the crowd that shows up for this one.  Bald dudes with pony tail meter will be off the charts.  And if you’re expecting Dave or Roger to show up, drop another hit brother.  We haven’t seen this Think Floyd, but our favorite Floyd tribute band has always been The Machine.  Although I can’t remember if they were good, the weed was good, both or neither.  Shine on.

Queen and Paul Rodgers revealed that their new album, The Cosmos Rocks, their first studio album with Rodgers on vocals, will be released October 14th. For the band, it’s their first studio album since 1995’s Made In Heaven, which collected the last remaining songs by Freddie Mercury. The album will also feature a cover song (perhaps Del Shannon’s “Runaway”) for the first time in Queen’s recording history. RockHeap has revealed that this album will suck and no one will buy it.

Posted on: July 25th, 2008 Stones Sign New Deal

The Rolling Stones have signed a long term deal with the world’s largest record label, Universal Music. They left their longtime home at EMI due to the subsequent unrest following the label’s sale to Terra Firma. The new deal includes all of their post 1971 records, which unfortunately for Universal also includes Dirty Work, Steel Wheels and Bridges To Babylon to name a few of the stinkers the stones have laid over the past 25 years. The deal includes new records (can’t wait) as well as digital rights to the Stones catalog. The Stones records will be released on Polydor Records, a label actually older then the Stones themselves.
