Posted on: August 29th, 2008 Classic Clips: AC/DC, “Sin City”

With Angus & the gang’s new LP, “Black Ice” hitting the shelves this week we figured we’d take it back to the Bon Scott era for this Classic Clip from The Midnight Special TV show.

A blogger suspected of streaming songs from the unreleased Guns N’ Roses album “Chinese Democracy” on his website was arrested Wednesday and appeared in court, where his bail was set at $10,000. Federal authorities say Cogill posted nine unreleased Guns N’ Roses songs on his site in June. The songs were later removed. In later posts, Cogill wrote that the FBI had questioned him and asked his readers if any of them knew a good attorney. He was represented Wednesday by a federal public defender. RockHeap knows a good lawyer, just call 1-800-your-a-fuckin-dumb-ass.

Five Genesis albums from the Peter Gabriel era are being re-released in a 7-CD/6 DVD box set on November 11th with 5.1 DTS sound and hours of unreleased material. Their landmark 1974/75 “Lamb Lies Down On Broadway” world tour was never filmed, but this collection does have a complete performance from Belgian TV in 1972 and their appearance on Midnight Special in 1973. Make sure you have someone with you when you drop acid for this freakout. Rockheap Cares!

Posted on: August 26th, 2008 New Zep Music? Maybe????

Drummer Jason Bonham told a Detroit radio station that he would join Led Zeppelin’s Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones in the studio to try to do some new material and writing. Bonham said, “At the moment, all I know is I have the great pleasure to go and jam with the two guys and start work on some material. Whatever it ends up as, to ever get a chance to jam with two people like that, it is a phenomenal thing for me.  It’s my life.  It’s what I’ve dreamed about doing.” RockHeap officially has a boner.

AC/DC’s new album Black Ice will have three different collectible covers in yellow, red and white. This is being done to hide the puke which fans will hurl when they are forced to buy the album from Wal-Mart.

Jimmy Page helped close out the Beijing 2008 Olympics as he and other brits were handed the torch ceremoniously for the 2012 Olympic Games in London yesterday. Pagey popped out of a Transformers looking double decker bus playing Whole Lotta Love, while Beyonce, I mean Leona Lewis sang the vocals of a very PC version of the song. While this travesty was going on “English People” were apparently doing “English Things” to remind us that the Olympics are in England next. This garbage ended with David Beckham kicking a soccer ball into the crowd, RockHeap vomited then turned off the telly.

What better way to get the weekend started than with a nice Bron-Y-Aur Stomp from Earl’s Court in 1975.

Posted on: August 22nd, 2008 Jim Morrison Stops Spinning In His Grave

The Doors’ Ray Manzarek and Robby Krieger will have to pay $5 million to drummer John Densmore and the parents of Jim Morrison and Pamela Courson, Morrison’s widow, as the legal battle between the former band members has finally been settled. The lawsuit started in 2003, when Densmore sued his band mates after they “improperly invoked The Doors’ name and images” when Krieger and Manzarek toured as “The Doors of the 21st Century” which was one of the worst conceived ideas in the history of rock (click here for our Fake Doors feature). Densmore didn’t object to the duo playing Doors music when they toured, he just asked that they not use the name, logo or any Morrison-era imagery, which the duo eventually did.

This isn’t the first time the surviving members of the Doors have disagreed since the band splintered. Densmore routinely rejects the Doors music from being used for commercial purposes — each member has equal veto power over business deals — denying possible deals with Cadillac and Apple, which the other two members approved of. “Morrison had been adamant against doing commercials and Densmore wanted to honor Morrison’s memory,” the appeals court said in its ruling. Yeah Densmore. Finally a rock star, who is not a pimp. Rockheap’s hat goes off to him.

Posted on: August 22nd, 2008 Forget Page & Plant, It’s Page & Phelps

Michael Phelps has dominated the Beijing Olympics with his unthinkable 8 gold medals. But no amount of medals can top his next event. He will be sharing the stage with Jimmy Page! Page & Phelps will be part of the Olympic closing ceremony. A short handover segment will take place in London, which will be the site of the 2012 summer games. Reportedly Pagey will perform “Whole Lotta Love” with Leona Lewis. We don’t know who Leona Lewis is and don’t care enough to look her up.

Posted on: August 21st, 2008 Phil Collins: World’s Stupidest Man

In what’s becoming an expensive habit, Phil Collins‘ latest divorce is setting records in England. The cost to end his third marriage? $46.8 million. The marriage to Orianne Cevey 35, which lasted a scant 6 years, will wind up being the highest divorce settlement ever in the UK. Besting even Sir Paul, by 2 mil. Phil’s divorce from wife  # 2 Jill Tavelman cost him $34 million back in 1994. Rockheap figures this latest divorce was worth $21,000 a day. Phil, seriously, do you know what kind of hookers you can get for that type of cash? What are you thinking? Do us, the world and your bank account a favor and don’t get married again or might i suggest something called a pre-nup, you wanker!!!

Posted on: August 20th, 2008 Brian Wilson’s Corpse Teams With Gannett for New Release

The former Beach Boy and his label, Capitol/EMI, are partnering with newspaper publisher Gannett for Wilson’s new release, That Lucky Old Sun. Starting Friday, the album will be streamed free on 50 Gannett newspaper and TV websites, including USAToday.com. Wilson describes his new effort as an “interwoven series of ’rounds’ with interspersed spoken word”. Here’s hoping whoever is listening to the stream also has a copy of USA Today handy to vomit into.

Posted on: August 19th, 2008 Getting Laid = Getting Votes

Daughtry has contributed his cover version of Foreigner’s ode to getting laid “Feels Like The First Time” to CNN. CNN plans to use this new version of the song as part of it’s election coverage of first time voters. Considering how stupid most 18-20 year olds are, Rockheap would actually rather these kids get laid than vote. Mick Jones of Foreigner is quoted as saying “Daughtry’s version of the song is very cool and has more than captured the essence of the original.” Translation: “I don’t give a shit what it sounds like, I’m getting paid bitches”

Here’s the video they created for this pointless cover:

Posted on: August 18th, 2008 AC/DC and The Man???

It’s been more than 25 years since the corporations have sucked the life-force out of rock music, but never in my wildest dreams did i ever expect AC/DC and the world’s largest retailer to jump into bed together, but apparently hell has frozen over. If the thought of stepping into a Wal-Mart repels you, it can be pre-ordered starting today on walmart.com, samsclub.com and acdc.com. The album, titled “Black Ice”, is available for $11.88. Posted on: August 15th, 2008 Classic Clips: Isaac Hayes, “Theme From Shaft”

With the passing of the soul legend earlier this week, it was only appropriate for today’s Classic Clip to come from Black Moses himself.  Check out this completely insane video of Isaac doing the Theme From Shaft from Spain in 1973.  Not sure what’s crazier, his outfit or the fact that Rev. Jesse Jackson introduces him.  Get funky y’all.

Posted on: August 14th, 2008 The Who Are Nice People

The Who announced that they’ll give all their earnings from an October 21st concert near Detroit to benefit charities in the Motor City. “The first gig we ever played in the U.S. was in Detroit and we have always had an affinity with this part of the country,” Roger Daltrey said. “Pete and I are very aware of the problems people are having in Michigan and feel we should give something back for all the support we have had over the last 40 years.” The Who ask people attending the concert to “Join Together With the Band” and contribute to the charities as well. Rockheap also cares about people in Detroit and urges them to wear flak jackets and helmets while attending The Who shows in Detroit.

Posted on: August 14th, 2008 Jackson Browne: American Cry Baby

Jackson Browne has filed a lawsuit against John McCain after the Republican presidential candidate used a portion of Browne’s “Running On Empty” in a campaign commercial without permission. The Republican National Party is also listed in the suit. In the commercial, McCain mocks Barack Obama for suggesting that the country conserve gas through proper tire inflation. What bothers Browne almost as much as McCain’s lack of permission, the lawsuit alleges, is that using “Running On Empty” suggests that Browne supports McCain’s presidential campaign and the Republican platform. Jackson also sued a bully who kicked sand in his face at the beach. Lighten up dude, this is the most action your career has gotten since you beat up Daryl Hannah.

Posted on: August 13th, 2008 Rock Hall Rolls to NYC

Mayor Michael Bloomberg announced today that The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is hitting the road and opening an annex in downtown Manhattan.  This is the first time the museum has built any type of presence outside of it’s home in Cleveland.  Plans are also in place to open additional annexes in Las Vegas (makes sense) and the Middle East (say what?). The idea is to create additional revenue streams as well as to get more people to visit the Rock Hall in Cleveland.  Good luck with that.
